KeySpan Corporation
Restoring confidence in transaction and risk management systems
KeySpan Corporation (KeySpan), the fifth largest distributor of natural gas in the United States, was experiencing problems associated with Nucleus, its transaction and risk management software solution. The system was not meeting fundamental business requirements and, as a result, users had lost confidence in the ability of the application to assist in monitoring risk.
KeySpan management understood that in order to achieve the consolidated view of risk they required, they would need to fully realize the capability of the company’s multi million-dollar investment in Nucleus. Nucleus needed to be transformed from a secondary support system to a primary data repository that would be able to aggregate price and transaction data to generate comprehensive risk reports.
PA Consulting Group was engaged to provide a rapid assessment of current Nucleus functionality, prioritize identified issues, and outline recommendations for moving forward. In this capacity, PA provided insights and lessons learned in previous engagements while advising other utilities on using and maintaining Nucleus, assistance on understanding the cause and implications of the system issues, a workplan describing tasks to enhance application functionality, and provide a more robust system support infrastructure.
