An international Tier 1 automotive supplier
Project managing the development of complex software for infotainment systems
This major global automotive supplier develops state-of-the-art automotive and mechatronic systems for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the premium car sector. The client had been selected to develop and supply the infotainment and navigation system for a top-of-the-range model of a major German car manufacturer. However, this project was based on unproven technology, with inadequate definition of scope, and in a complex environment. It therefore remained at risk of failure for some time.
PA Consulting Group was invited to conduct a review of the status of the project and introduce areas of improvement.
Using PA's 'QuickScan' methodology, a proven project audit tool, PA recommended either cancelling the project or introducing important changes. The recommended changes were accepted and PA was asked to help with their implementation. For over three years, the team of PA consultants undertook a variety of roles as the project needs changed, including integration management for customer application software, managing the project office and co-ordinating platform deliveries.
The continuous hands-on work by the PA team paid off handsomely. The client was able to deliver the system on time, and build up a new relationship with the OEM.
