Drugs Interventions Programme

Simple technology, effectively used, delivers substantial continuity of care benefits for drug misusers and helps the fight against drug-related crime

PA Consulting Group helped the Home Office's Drug Interventions Programme (DIP), to improve care for the UK's 250,000 problematic drug users. For the first time, DIP can accurately monitor and report on its effectiveness to all levels of Government including the prime Minister, to whom it is directly accountable.

DIP is a world first in bringing together criminal justice and treatment agencies and other services to provide personally-tailored solutions for adults - particularly those who misuse Class A drugs and commit crime to fund this. DIP gets drug-misusing offenders into treatment, keeps them in treatment programmes, and supports their rehabilitation. It is also implementing special measures for people. DIP has already produced substantial social benefits, and PA's new business system has increased them. It ensures that drug misuser clients receive effective continuity of care as they transfer between community and custody. It provides improved management information which enables the Home Office to monitor the effectiveness of different types of intervention, and allows DIP to focus its efforts more accurately and hence reduce the harm arising from drug-related crime.
