A Tier 1 automotive industry supplier

Securing over €200m in turnover through timely introduction of infotainment software to the Japanese automotive market

The client, a Tier 1 supplier to automotive manufacturers such as Volkswagen, DaimlerChrysler and General Motors, has 45,000 staff and operates in 137 locations worldwide. Their Infotainment R&D organization undertakes the project management and development of in-car infotainment products such as radios, hi-fis, navigation systems, computers and multimedia systems. The client was contracted to develop software for a luxury car infotainment system in Japan, a market characterized by demand for high quality and high-end systems, delivered without delay.

The client’s management asked PA Consulting Group to take on overall responsibility for the market introduction of the system in Japan.

Through PA’s assurance of the software development process, the software was accepted in time for the SOP, as well as enabling 4,000 cars in the Vehicle Preparation Centre in Japan to be updated with the new software. By rescuing the project and completing the software development in time for the SOP date, the Tier 1 supplier was able to reduce its compensation payments by more than €40m so that the OEM could secure its predicted turnover of more than €200m in its first year of production alone.
