Case study
Asia-Pacific postal operator
Helping an Asia-Pacific postal operator to develop a strategic plan
Background The client had put in place a national operations group, which was formed from the remnants of a number of state-based operations and had responsibility for the managing the mail network. The newly announced executive team faced a number of issues around mounting service and cost pressures, falling revenues and increased competition in an increasingly deregulated market.
What PA did The client asked PA to help them develop a strategic plan to unite the new organization and guide it into the future. As part of the program, PA:
- brought together the senior team and engaged them in an intensive workshop aimed at forging the strategic direction of the group, articulating the mission, ambition and high-level strategies to achieve it
- helped the senior team identify and prioritize a comprehensive set of divisional issues and develop potential solutions
- developed a business-planning framework based on PA’s ‘One Page Strategy’ approach – a pragmatic, template driven framework, capable of being rapidly implemented using limited facilitative resources
- managed the implementation of the process. This involved facilitating the formation and mobilization of 10 process teams to work through the business-planning framework. During this period, PA managed the ‘hub’ operations of planning, scheduling and communications during the business’s busiest period – the Christmas season.
Benefits to the client The client’s senior team worked more effectively together and were able to develop a focused, prioritized strategy that formed the back-bone of the business plan for the new national operations group.
