The business issue: The parent company recognized that the entire manufacturing operation required updating in order to remain competitive. The current manufacturing configuration could not accommodate the new models that were in the pipeline. How PA helped: All aspects of the current operation were reviewed in conjunction with the client. Drawing on knowledge of world best-practice, the team developed a comprehensive strategy that met all operational and financial targets as well as supporting the future needs of the market.
Using this strategy, a revised factory layout was produced including the identification of key items of production and test equipment. Additionally a new process to manage quality and productivity was developed. PA then helped manage the implementation of the new factory and processes.
The implementation of a world class manufacturing configuration changed almost every aspect of the current operation. The new configuration substantially improved manufacturing costs, reduced inventory and improved quality, and the transition from old to new was completed on time and within budget.
