Case study
US chemicals company
European business unit strategy for a global US chemicals company
This company supplied thermoplastic products in a diverse market with many products, and a complex supply chain involving thousands of customers. It enjoyed a top position in a market that showed significant growth, but the increased globalization, concentration, international competition and environmental scrutiny forced the company to reconsider its avenues for growth. The company asked PA to help answer two basic questions:
- Can we achieve our planned growth?
- Do we have the right capabilities
Together with a client team of experts, PA followed a three-stage approach:
- Situational analysis and identification of key drivers for growth
- Identification of the most promising opportunities and assessment of the current business portfolio
- Definition of a business plan and preparation of an implementation plan.
Within a short time frame, the project team produced a clear business plan that showed that further growth - above market average - was feasible and justified an investment plan for further capacity.
