PA implements SAP/HR

The Danish Armed Forces have initiated the implementation of a new one-group solution based on the standard ERP system SAP/R3, and the first advantages have already been gained although barely half of the project is finalised.

The Armed Forces is the largest workforce in Denmark. More than 150,000 personnel are on the staff of the Army, the Air Force, the Marine, the Home Guard or another authority under the Danish Defence Ministry.

On the basis of the requirements of the Danish Ministry of Finance (the modernisation report: 'New views on the public sector') and the Armed Forces' own needs, as well as increasing demands and fewer resources, the Armed Forces needed to view their operations from a functional (process-oriented) viewpoint based on the demand (the customer's requirements) they are expected to cover.

At the same time they wish to maintain their current organisations, but clarify and focus on the lateral cost management of functional inter-relations according to a total cost principle.

Until now the Armed Forces had been characterised by a large number of staff systems optimised towards staff administration of the individual authority. The result of this was a lack of clarity in the staff area, while the various IT systems led to a considerable duplication of administrative effort.
