Laying the foundations for migration to a single physical network inventory system
A wide range of communications services is offered by ntl to homes and business customers throughout the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. Nearly 12 million homes are located in ntl's franchise areas, and ntl now serves residential customers with over 5 million cable TV, telephony and Internet services. Its ability to provide the highest quality service to customers is partly dependent on ntl leveraging its physical network infrastructure. However, over several years ntl had accumulated many geospatial network inventory solutions that were causing significant business inefficiencies.
The company needed to decommission its legacy systems and deploy a single application suite to streamline the management of its physical network inventory. In 2004 ntl selected Enghouse Systems' ESRI-based NetWORKS application suite as the chosen platform for managing this inventory.
PA was engaged to undertake data modeling and detailed data migration planning to support the decommissioning of ntl's legacy systems and implementation of the NetWORKS application suite. This planning included existing civils, fiber, radio frequency and copper data, in addition to ensuring that the NetWORKS suite was configured appropriately to support existing business functions. PA and ntl formed a joint team comprising senior executives and functional staff to undertake this program, build consensus and gain staff commitment.
