Transforming learning

A perspective on education systems

PA Consulting Group (PA) have brought to life the potential we see for technology to transform teaching and learning by producing a short animated video – this can be found at the top right hand side of this page. The aim of this video is to crystallise our latest thinking, to prompt wider discussion and initiate the thinking of others. It is particularly targeted at leaders across the education system who are being charged with developing their vision for 21st Century education systems.

We have been involved at the heart of the transformation of the Education system in several countries with a focus on the potential for IT to support and drive changes towards a more personalised and demand-led model. Within the overall area we see several trends emerging which are enabled by technology and illustrated in the video.

  • Personalising learning – a range of flexible delivery models and personalised learning content offering the learner an experience which best meets their individual needs and preferences

  • Demand leadership – ensuring that learners, employers and parents are driving the development and delivery of services

  • Extending capacity – minimising investment in additional physical infrastructure to achieve national targets through the use of IT to support learning beyond the classroom

  • Efficiency in delivery – continued emphasis on driving efficiencies and achieving a Return on Investment in technology spend through reductions in cost of delivery

  • Technology demand – meeting learner demand for a learning experience which shares the technology they are familiar with outside of learning.

We believe that whilst technology is now central to reform there must be a shift in focus from the technology alone to the change needed to embed use. This requires a shared vision of the potential and appreciation of the full extent of change required.
