Planning for the future of autonomous vehicles
Until now, the debate around autonomous vehicles has been mostly about the technology. But as driverless cars start to become a reality on our roads (albeit under test conditions) attention is turning to their wider impact on business and society.
Our report, Accelerating the Debate on Autonomous Vehicles, picks up on four scenarios that might emerge and poses important questions for the transport industry, including:
- What requirements will be placed on vehicle manufacturers and/or owners to ensure adequate protection from cyber threats?
- How will public acceptance of autonomous vehicles be informed and shaped?
- How will public confidence in driverless technology impact the design of transport infrastructure?
- What changes to policy and regulation will be required?
