PA helped the US Environmental Protection Agency reduce methane emissions
PA advised the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) in support of the International Methane to Markets Partnership, which aimed to reduce global methane emissions by developing sustainable markets for methane generation, capture and use in the agricultural sector.
PA helped USEPA quantify the potential for methane emission reductions and identify country market opportunities. We managed the design, installation and operation of anaerobic digester technologies to capture methane emissions from livestock operations and provided technical assistance and training to strengthen local emissions management.
PA completed country resource assessments for Argentina, the Philippines and Thailand, as well as studies in other countries in Latin America and Southeast Asia.
We installed anaerobic digester systems at five swine farms in Mexico, generating annual reductions of around 3,000 MTCO2e, and conducted feasibility studies at facilities in China and Colombia. PA estimated that, in total, Argentina, the Philippines and Thailand could cut equivalent CO2 emissions by more than nine million tonnes a year in the agriculture and food-processing sectors.
