The consolidated plan required detail on how each Smart Grid project was tied to concrete benefits for customers, the environment, and job creation, as requested by the Department of Energy.
The joint PA and Pepco team analysed all Smart Grid documentation that was relevant to its federal stimulus application. Using PA's Connect the Smart Grid Dots model, they created a visual that traced each project to specific benefits in each of the categories of customer, environment, economic growth and society. This was then expanded into a comprehensive strategy and description of the overall programme with reports for each Smart Grid project showing rollout plans, business cases, system architecture, process impacts and related project components.
The client is in the process of applying for stimulus funding, using the products of this effort, in particular eight grant applications which are each limited by the statutory funding cap.
" PA Consulting has proven to be a valuable asset in helping Pepco Holdings International (PHI) clarify and articulate its vision of the Smart Grid. The work that the team has done in working with us through the development of the overall Smart Grid program; distribution and transmission automation, communication, demand response and even portions of the AMI documents has been of great value. In particular, their value was truly realised when, with very short notice, they were asked to put together some supporting material for PHI's presentation at the US Senate. The PA team has been a pleasure to work with and they have really helped to bring out the best in our PHI team.. Kudos!"
