Following the collapse of the steel industry in the 1980s, Sheffield City Council had to operate within a challenging economic an financial environment. Today, the city is re-invented and regenerated and the Council - serving more than half-a-million citizens - is a shining example of transformation in action. To achieve this dramatic turnaround, politicians and officers placed a relentless focus on improving front line services.
Sheffield City Council (SCC) wanted to get a firm grasp of its total procurement spend to secure more attractive pricing. Working with the council, PA led a spend diagnostic with procurement staff which involved looking at all elements of procurement expenditure, profiling cost centres, suppliers, and the types of items purchased.
To help the council work more easily with suppliers PA benchmarked SCC’s contracts, processes and procurement structure with those of other public and private sector organisations to identify the range of opportunities for improvement. Following PA’s work, the Council is well placed to exceed its savings target.
