Designing a high-speed manufacturing process for Burgopak

Global packaging company Burgopak had developed a unique packaging design that was proving successful for use with high-value products. Burgopak identified the opportunity to apply the design to pharmaceutical blister pack products. However, the company needed help to identify a high-speed manufacturing process that could roll out the pack in sufficient volume for a global marketplace.

PA helped the Burgopak team define the complete manufacturing process route. We also helped Burgopak protect their innovation with both direct intellectual property (IP) and ‘ring-fencing’ IP to protect the manufacturing process. This would put the company in a stronger position prior to opening discussions with large-scale packaging machine builders.

With the IP secured, Burgopak was able to form a partnership alliance with Bosch Sigpack and start to fully realise the commercial potential of their innovation. The company is now producing pharmaceutical packaging in Wales with a high-speed machine capable of producing 20 million units a year.
