In 2010 an interim Mutuals Information Service was launched which acted as a first point of contact for organisations and individuals interested in spinning out their service as a mutual.
One year on, PA Consulting Group - as an organisation with significant employee ownership - has won the competitive tender to deliver the service. The new Mutuals Information (and Triage) Service is being delivered by the PA-led consortium of Employee Ownership Association, Co-operatives UK, Social Enterprise UK, Baxi Partnership and the Office for Public Management. This is a strong consortium with extensive expertise in supporting and advising services that are seeking to mutualise.
PA is designing the IT solution underpinning the new service, administering the triage process which signposts users to appropriate guidance and support and managing the overall delivery of the service. The new Mutuals Information Service is an important component in the overall support arrangements being made available by Cabinet Office. The service is complemented by the Mutuals Support Programme (a fund of £10 million in support of some of the most promising and innovative mutuals that can be spun out from the public sector).
The first awards from the £10million Mutual Support Programme have been announced today 1st June 2012 by Francis Maude, Minister for the Cabinet Office. It is great to see the MSP funding starting to flow through to help organisations who want to spin out from the public sector
