Assessing project and programme management abilities – Highways Agency
The Highways Agency (HA) recognised the need to raise its levels of project and programme management (PPM) capability and, along with the Department for Transport and its other main Agencies, set up a Centre of Excellence and a PPM Network. This network of PPM practitioners offers best practice guidance and support.
PA Consulting Group participated as an independent moderator in PPM assessment panels which assessed the competence of more experienced members of the network. We provided a small team of consultants with wide experience in management of government programmes. The assessment process included review of applications, interviews to rate candidate competency and also to suggest further developments for candidates.
During the course of the work we helped the HA to amplify its guidance on PPM development, shape its assessment criteria and also helped to provide the evidence to support proposals to enhance further PPM development.
