PA Consulting Group holds London round table event - Can the NHS lead a healthcare revolution?

17 March 2011

PA Consulting Group, the leading management and IT consulting and technology firm, held the latest in its series of round table discussions on 1 March 2011 in London, which focussed on the need for the NHS to revolutionise the way healthcare is delivered. The session, attended by an invited audience of NHS managers, clinicians, manufacturers and regulatory representatives, addressed the way forward for intelligent healthcare (i-Health).

Faced with the rising demand from an aging population and lifestyle-related long-term conditions, the discussion's main focus was on preventative and pro-active healthcare and the move towards empowering patients through technology (often referred to as Telehealth).

Guest speaker Catherine Holmes, from the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, considered such issues as: what are the opportunities, how do we capitalise on them and where can we see examples of success stories?

Key challenges that emerged from the discussion were:

  • enabling and sustaining patients’ voices

  • balancing top-down and bottom-up approaches

  • enabling and managing a transition of power

  • technology and information: access, use and scale.

For a more detailed discussion summary, you can send an email.

As a leading technology consultancy, whose insight spans healthcare, medical devices and wireless technology, PA Consulting is well positioned to promote the technology-healthcare debate.
