PETER SIGGINS, IT CONSULTING, PA CONSULTING GROUP

The business user’s perspective

Stephen Pritchard

This article, in the Financial Times Digital Business report, looks at how business users might soon be affected by capacity problems with their mobile network providers.  Network providers are coping at the moment, but problems are soon likely given the increasing numbers of smartphones. The article quotes Peter Siggins, an expert on business mobility at PA Consulting Group.

Peter says that the scale of the network capacity problem varies: “The issues are not as severe in Asia-Pacific, but in the US we are seeing problems and it is limiting the extent to which businesses can leverage mobility.”

Peter adds that some companies will be more vulnerable to networks’ capacity problems, especially if they have mobile or distributed workforces, or operate in areas where networks are reaching capacity.
