“I advise managers to invest in IT that will change the way the business works.”

David Elton, PA IT and change management expert

Cost control develops into full reviews of processes

Charles Batchelor

Financial Times

5 December 2012

PA’s David Elton, IT and change management expert, is quoted in the Financial Times The Connected Business special report. David comments on why the spending downturn leads to a greater focus on functionality in IT.

David says: “There is no such thing as an IT project. There are only business projects with IT in them."

David goes on to talk about the importance of focusing IT budget on developing applications that bring about change. David says: “I advise managers to invest in IT that will change the way the business works. The cost of IT is coming down but the cost of implementation is not. You have to manage change or you could find that you are not achieving full functionality from your investment.

"If your investment is failing, you need to look for reasons outside the technology. Look at the implementation."
