Architecture: Software opens up fresh vistas on building design

Sarah Murray
Financial Times
30 March 2011

Mike Paton, technology and innovation expert at PA Consulting Group, has been quoted in an article in the Financial Times The Connected Business special report. Mike gives his views on how IT is helping architects and the construction industry erect structures that are energy efficient, use natural conditions to reduce their environmental impact and generate less waste when built.

Mike argues that, while technology is helping companies speed up the design of energy-efficient buildings, reduce waste and model options before construction, IT will never replace designers: "All these tools and technologies get you to market quicker but it’s how you use the design that counts."

Mike adds that "…there’s no substitute for innovative thinking."
