In Computerworld magazine, Leif Caspersen, PA sourcing expert, reveals how the role of the CIO is changing due to the growing trend of outsourcing IT operations to external suppliers. Leif explains that successful CIOs will respond by remaining close to their businesses and becoming more skillful at managing external suppliers. The article refers to a survey carried out in 2011 by Harvey Nash and PA Consulting Group, which indicates that 49% of CIOs in Scandinavia plan to increase their investments in multi-sourcing.
“An increasing number of Danish companies are moving toward a more complex supplier strategy, which challenges the classic operations and development of IT,” says Leif, who believes implementing a multi-sourcing strategy will become a core capacity for the CIO of the future.
Leif goes on to say: “CIOs need to ensure a close dialogue with suppliers in order to operate the company.” He stresses that CIOs must focus on the integration of processes and service, as many companies work with standardised service agreements and contract management of processes.
