Martin Exner, digital expert at PA Consulting Group, is quoted in an article in Computer Sweden where he discusses the lack of focus among companies when it comes to digital transformation.

Based on the results of PA’s Digital Barometer, that surveyed 773 IT decision makers in the US and Europe, the article highlights how many companies have a long way to go to achieve their own ambitions for the digital business.

Martin says: “The awareness about digitisation is increasing, but the percentage of companies that digitise their businesses will remain at the same level as before. The gap between ambition and the actual level of digitisation is increasing.”

The article goes on to explain that PA’s analysis reveals that companies where the CEO or marketing manager runs digitisation have proved to be more successful in achieving their ambitions. “With support from the right level, ie from managers with influence and decision-making power, digitisation becomes easier,” adds Martin.

Another key finding from PA’s research is that only a fifth of the companies surveyed have the right skills to digitise and Martin describes a situation in which many companies are feverishly looking for the right people. “The situation creates new opportunities for IT managers. They have the possibilities to take on more of a technical leadership and talk about what alternative technology strategies are possible and what the consequences of these will be.”
