“With BI you are able to process data even faster. When working in real-time you are able to pull a report the minute you need to make your decision.”

BI creates new opportunities

Christian Riekher, PA business intelligence (BI) expert, features in an article in Computerworld, giving his view on how BI can drive change in a company and create new business opportunities.

Christian says: “We are facing a paradigm shift in regards to traditional BI, which was about building data warehouses and creating reports and analyses. New technologies and platforms enable businesses to look into the future and better solve the tasks ahead.” He stresses that, in the future, BI will not only be used retrospectively, but will also be used as a way to test and drive new initiatives such as increasing sales in new markets: “With BI you are able to process data even faster. When working in real-time you are able to pull a report the minute you need to make your decision.”

He adds that while many companies only use ten to 20 per cent of the data available to them, new technologies are making it easier for them to activate the commercial value in the remaining data. Christian outlines the benefits of offering BI as a cloud solution: “We still see a number of challenges around cloud technologies but also a number of advantages. For instance, if you only use BI occasionally, or just want to test it, using cloud-based services makes sense.”
