Digital transformation requires an entirely new mind-set

Stefan knapp | Finans.dk| 19 february 2016read the full article in danish

PA business transformation expert, Stefan Knapp, has had a byline article published in Finans.dk discussing digital transformation. According to Stefan, boosting your presence on social media is not enough if you aspire to achieve a successful digital transformation of your organisation. People often misinterpret the concept of digital transformation, thinking it’s all about investing in new technology but that is far from the case.

Stefan says: “Updating the corporate website or creating new mobile or social platforms is not sufficient. Digital transformation requires a fundamental change of the entire mind-set of the organisation and an understanding of what digitisation is.”

Stefan refers to PA’s Digital Barometer, according to which 50 per cent of the companies that entered the survey did not have the right mind-set to survive in the digital age, and only 17 per cent had readjusted their business to the digital reality. However, says Stefan, all is not lost.

“The decision to take the organisation into the digital era must be a management decision. Next step is to implement this decision in the entire organisation and then define what business and customer processes that need to be digitised. Then the organisation needs to make the most of technology, such as smartphones, wearable technology and Internet of Things. In short digital disruption is vital. Businesses must challenge their own way of thinking and adapt their products to their customers’ needs,” says Stefan.
