Lesley Uren, PA talent management expert, is quoted in the Financial Times on the struggle senior executives have when moving into a new job.
Lesley explains how many senior executives do not want to show ignorance by asking for help and guidance while companies do not realise that the success of many executives is often “contextualised” in a particular role or company.
Lesley goes on to explain where the success really lies for senior executives: “The more senior you become, the less dependent your success is on technical skills than on softer skills, such as networking and the ability to influence and to get things done in an organisation. Companies should do more to ensure those networks are accessible and be really clear what success is.”
