National Assembly for Wales grants 10-year contract for business change and infrastructure upgrades to Siemens-led alliance.
Siemens Business Services and its alliance partners have been awarded a major new contract to provide business change and significant IT infrastructure upgrades to the National Assembly for Wales. The contract has an estimated value of over £200m and is scheduled to run over the next 10 years. It will deliver a comprehensive range of IT services that will put the Welsh Assembly Government at the forefront of government modernisation.
The contract is unusual in covering the Welsh Whitehall and the Welsh Westminster at the same time. Over 90% of the IT requirement will be supporting the administrative work of the Welsh Assembly Government but a high profile part of it will involve upgrading the support services to the democratic structures of the Assembly, itself one of the leading legislatures in adopting electronic democracy.
Responding to these unique client needs, Siemens Business Services built an alliance of leading partners with the best expertise and solutions available within the market. The alliance includes PA Consulting Group, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young UK plc and Siemens Communications.
Already a leading supplier of IT services to the UK Government, prime contractor Siemens Business Services will have responsibility for delivery of the overall programme and the installation of new technologies to underpin the business change activities.
PA Consulting Group will lead the business design and change programme, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young UK plc will support the main programme office and carry out selected application development projects and Siemens Communications will deliver telecommunications and video conferencing services.
Tom White, managing director, Siemens Business Services commented: “This win is great news for all involved and we are extremely proud to have been awarded this contract. As a leading supplier of services to the public sector both in the UK and in Europe we, along with our alliance partners, will enable the National Assembly for Wales to develop its organisation and processes to provide the best possible services to the people of Wales, now and into the future”
Claire Ruskin of PA Consulting Group said: “The Welsh Assembly Government wants to be excellent in its delivery of value to Wales and we are proud to be working with them achieving that ambition by bringing together different areas of expertise. We are very pleased to offer PA’s experience to make a real difference.”
Senior Cap Gemini Ernst & Young executive Andy McDonough said: "We are delighted to be a part of this Alliance and look forward to continuing our work with the administration in Wales in delivering world class technology solutions."
