The Treasury of the Isle of Man Government has today announced the appointment of PA Consulting Group to carry out a survey on the use of e-business on the Island.
The survey is to focus on the key market sectors, which will include, amongst others, financial services, manufacturing, tourism, retailing and construction.
The Island has enjoyed significant exposure and success from the current 3G trials being conducted by Manx Telecom (a subsidiary of MMO2). There is wide availability of broadband solutions for business and Manx Telecom has also recently implemented the technology to enable all of its remaining digital exchanges to provide ADSL service for all the Island’s residents. This ability to access fast Internet services has removed one of the major barriers to widespread e-business adoption, particularly for SMEs, identified by similar UK based surveys.
The Isle of Man Government has maintained its strong focus on developing leading edge e-business capability on the island through the role of Director of E-business, Tim Craine. This survey will help Tim to reflect on business progress made in recent years and support him in evolving the evidence based policy that the Island’s government can deploy to accelerate the development of competitive advantage for Island based businesses though effective use of e-business.
PA Consulting Group has been appointed to manage this survey, which will be conducted by BMG Research, a leading UK Market Research Agency. PA has developed an approach to analysis that recognises e-business as a core business competence, and as such measures its impact with a focus on business value, rather than the technology alone. This ‘value based’ approach helps to develop the widest appreciation of the impact of e-business competence on an organisation’s performance from skills and access to technical infrastructure through to key business processes, relationships and cash flow. By adopting this approach the survey structure, analysis of results and recommendations for intervention are all geared to delivering value back to the businesses of the Island
The survey will be conducted in September 2003 and results published later this year.
