PA Consulting Group examines the prospects for EDGE in Europe: Paper at GPRS Summit, London (28 October 2002)
-
10 October 2002
Julian Lake from PA Consulting Group, the leading international management, systems and technology consultancy, will examine whether the benefits offered by EDGE technology will be sufficient to persuade European operators to deploy the technology, in a paper to be given at a Pre-Summit Briefing to IIR's 4th Annual GPRS Summit, in London on 28 October 2002 (10.20am). He will also Chair the Briefing.
Julian, who heads the Radio Access Networks group in PA's Wireless Technology practice, will compare the capabilities, limitations and support for EDGE with those of GPRS and other technologies - drawing on 16 years' experience managing wireless projects for suppliers, operators, regulators and investors covering GSM, UMTS, digital TV, satellite and fixed wireless access networks.
In particular the paper will address the position of EDGE in the future deployment plans of operators, against a background of slow take-up of mobile data services and delayed UMTS launches, but a major push on EDGE from several US operators. It will consider under what market circumstances EDGE may be deployed in Europe, in what areas and when. The paper will be of value to strategists, managers, and network designers with equipment vendors and network operators.
Julian Lake is based at PA Consulting Group's International Technology Centre, Cambridge, UK.
