Through his keynote address at PM Professional Events' Effective PM 2002, at Birmingham's NEC, on 2 October (9.15am), Dr Phil White - deputy head of wireless at PA Consulting Group, the leading international management, systems and technology consultancy - will give insight into PA's 2002 award-winning work for the Swiss rail industry's wireless network.
Dr White's talk on the 'Benefits management through the project life cycle' will explain the challenging situation which faced the Swiss railway industry in implementing a new wireless network, across nearly 50 railway companies with a wide range of requirements and operating environments, and PA's contribution to this work.
PA was named overall winner of the 2002 Management Consultancy Association's Best Management Practice Awards for its innovative work with the Swiss Government Federal Office of Transport.
The talk will outline PA's approach which involved: consulting widely; educating sections of the industry about the benefits of a new system; absorbing the many stakeholders' views; addressing key issues early; clearly laying out benefits and costs; and gaining the consensus needed to pave the way for smooth introduction of the new system. All in all, a blueprint which would help Swiss Railways to maintain its impeccable safety record while introducing faster services.
It will outline the advantages the latest wireless technology can bring to complex networks, as well as the need to take into account all the requirements at an early stage. This is of particular relevance to complex situations where many stakeholders are involved.
