UbiNetics, a leading next generation wireless communication development company, today announces the launch of its GDC200 dual-band wireless modem PC card, enabling the first step towards the truly mobile office. Users are now able to browse the Internet, send and receive emails, faxes and SMS without the need for a separate phone unit and untidy wires.
The GDC200, a type II PCMCIA modem card, fully incorporates a dual band GSM module, a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card and mini dual band antenna in a unit no bigger than today's card modems. The GDC 200 fits into existing Type II PCMCIA slots leaving only the flip-up aerial visible on the exterior of the laptop.
The GDC200 supports the full range of features users expect from fixed line modems and mobile data transfer technology. Voice transfer is achieved through a plug-in headset, which slots into the outside edge of the card.
Ali Pourtaheri, President and CEO said: "UbiNetics' unrivalled knowledge of the mobile communications industry is enabling us to develop innovative, off the shelf 2G products that meet the demands of the consumer for increased wireless data transfer across the existing GSM networks.
"This is just the first step for UbiNetics. Our involvement with the development and testing of 3G networks means that we are constantly redefining our product range and are well placed to launch similar products for the HSCSD and GPRS networks when they come on line. These products will transform PDAs and laptops into wireless communication and information devices capable of accessing the Internet, videoconferencing and conducting mobile commerce. In short the truly mobile office has arrived."
Having received type approval earlier this month, the first GDC 200 products will be shipping in September. The GDC200 is Windows 95, Windows 98, CE and NT compliant.
