Clare Spottiswoode, former UK Gas Industry Regulator, will be joining PA Consulting Group, the international management, information and technology consultancy, from March 1st 1999, from her current position at Azurix, the water company formed by Enron Corp.
Ms Spottiswoode will be joining PA’s Energy, Resources and Chemicals practice in a role that will provide the opportunity to work with a wide range of companies and governments, both in the UK and internationally. She will be spearheading PA's energy work in mainland Europe with an emphasis on the forthcoming EU market liberalisation initiatives.
Since leaving OFGAS at the end of her term of office in September 1998, Clare Spottiswoode has been working with Azurix focusing on water regulation issues.
Said Ms Spottiswoode: "I have enjoyed my time at Azurix immensely; the people there have provided a tremendous stimulus and I have been most impressed by their determination to embrace and stimulate change in the water business.
"I am looking forward to working with PA for much the same reasons - the ability to pioneer change in the energy industry. Building on my Azurix experience, the role will give me extensive exposure to, and involvement in, the changes that will be taking place in Europe. I have also been particularly struck by the quality of the people at PA and their insistence on client benefits, value-based consulting and fresh thinking."
Welcoming the new appointment, Mike Rappolt, Head of PA's Global Energy, Resources and Chemicals practice, commented: "The appointment of Clare Spottiswoode demonstrates PA's commitment to consolidating our position in all areas of the energy market and particularly in emerging competitive utility markets".
Alex Kulpecz, executive director of Azurix for Europe, Middle East and Asia, added: "Azurix welcomes this opportunity for Clare to contribute her skills on a broader stage than can be provided by any individual company".
