What is the key success factor in outsourcing IT? Clients and suppliers don't speak the same language
This article provides a summary of PA's latest international outsourcing survey, which found that misunderstanding and mistrust inhibit successful outsourcing.
PA surveyed 320 IT directors worldwide and interviewed a number of global IT outsourcing suppliers and legal advisers. The report highlights for the first time the different perceptions within the outsourcing market that lead to dissatisfaction.
PA's conclusions are that, despite a maturing market, outsourcing relationships break down because sufficient attention is not paid to three success factors:
- complacency in the early strategy stages creates a 'fault line' that can make eventual success impossible
- the process must be tailored to the organisation
- the retained organisation is often inadequate.
PA's conclusion is that, without investment in better understanding across the outsourcing lifecycle, the concepts of 'business transformation' and 'partnership' will remain a distant goal.
