Benchmarking studies, carried out by PA Consulting Group in 2002 with EURELECTRIC, provide insights into the performance efficiency and development potential for German utilities. The key findings are:
- there is a significant gap between the most and least efficient EVUs (energy utilities) - independent of location
- size is not a guarantee of efficiency
- post-merger activities are expensive
- benchmarking, using international comparisons, can increase the performance of the German utilities market towards achieving 'best-in-class'.
