If the plans of airline owners, airplane manufacturers and airport authorities are right, their vision of the sector's future will be realized before 2010. "The sector will change more significantly during the next five years than in the last 50 years", says air travel expert Rick Russell from the consultancy PA Consulting Group. Flying will become cheaper, better and more personalised for passengers. The wave of innovation is a reaction to the increasing market split into price-conscious flyers and prestige flyers. Providers are looking for new business models to get out of the dilemma of falling ticket rates combined with increasing competition at the same time.
