A recent survey from Gartner predicts that nine out of ten companies will support the usage of private devices at work (known as ‘bring your own device’ – BYOD) within two years.
Another survey conducted by Micro Trend, polling 850 decision makers at companies in the US, UK and Germany, concludes that four out of five companies are already supporting BYOD. Although many companies with strict IT policies may be reluctant to join the new trend, it seems they may have no choice.
PA outsourcing expert Gösta Ljungberg provides five recommendations for companies that want to establish clear rules for a BYOD policy, ensuring that it meets the necessary levels of IT security:
• be proactive
• be sensitive to employees’ needs but settle a clear strategy
• develop company-specific apps in order to strengthen its image among employees
• emphasise clear guidelines to be communicated among, and accepted by, employees
• remain aware that employee loyalty is the outmost important guarantee for IT-security/safety
