In a byline article in Denmark’s Berlingske Tidende, PA’s Peter Sylvest and Adrian Cook look at the role of competitiveness in the Olympic Games. Some countries, such as Jamaica, have punched above their weight in terms of medals and results and Peter and Adrian point out that, just as we all want our athletes to do well, every investor wants the business in which his or her money is invested to punch above its weight. Peter and Adrian look at what businesses across Western Europe can learn from the Olympics in terms of competitiveness and productivity.
Peter and Adrian comment: “You have to consider the basics: planning, structure and preparation are vital […] however, streamlining systems and processes alone does not mean that you will win. If you don’t have this under control, you will surely lose.”
Peter and Adrian continue: “In regards to global competitiveness, very few Danish companies have the advantages of larger economies in terms of large-scale operations and volume, the size of the domestic market and wages. But if we are to follow Jamaica’s example, one day Denmark may be able take the gold in competitiveness."
