PA’s Will Harman, supply chain expert, is quoted in Utility Week magazine. Will is quoted in an article which looks at utilities moving away from straightforward buying as they begin to experiment with closer relationships with suppliers.

On the partnership approach, Will explains how it is not without pitfalls: “Straight procurement is easier to do and generally less problematic.”

Will continues: “With partnerships you have to put in the resources to make it work.”

Will concludes by explaining that partnering develops dependency on a few suppliers, which means performance and the commercial side need to be monitored carefully.
