PA Consulting Group's Gregg Edeson, electric utility expert, has been quoted in StateTech Magazine. Gregg comments on the success of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection pilot project. The aim of the pilot project was to improve read rate, increase bill collection and cut contractor costs with the use of smart meters and advanced metering infrastructure. The pilot achieved vast improvements in read rates and customer service.
Commenting on the pilot, Gregg says: "That’s just the start. The real value comes when customers get accurate, real-time information about their water use. When they see how much it costs to water the flower garden after work or spend an extra five minutes in the shower, they’ll be motivated to change their behaviour."
Gregg goes on to say: "It’s Metering 2.0. It’s the next step. This is not going away.”
