PA’s David Stansell, mobile business expert, is quoted extensively in an article in the Financial Times. David talks about how to make working from other people’s offices easier when on a business trip.
The article looks at how to ensure you are easily contactable and can work effectively when working away from your base site.
David addresses simple ways to ensure effective working: “Make sure you have little things that let you work effectively. Examples are applications for expenses, or the ability to handle images so you don’t have to deal with loads of paper.”
David explains the need for using two different mobile devices whilst on another company’s network: “Take devices that can access both your professional and personal life, since many companies’ networks limit access to services such as Facebook. Have, say, a BlackBerry for work and a smartphone for personal matters.”
David also highlights some behaviours to follow when working off site: “Be more aware of the cultural environment. Follow the social conventions more closely than you would [at base] and go into the office organised with a list of things to do. However, working alongside people in a different office is a great chance to make contacts and connections.”
