PA’s Frank Madsen, expert in organisation and management, features in a two-page article in Borsen about HR management. Frank talks about the common qualities which are shared by the best HR managers.
Frank says: “The most competent HR people haven’t been working in HR their entire lives. It worries me deeply if an HR consultant hasn’t had any experience other than within HR.”
Frank adds that the most qualified HR manager needs to understand the overall business to be able to offer the most qualified HR guidance:
“First of all, an HR consultant needs to have some degree of integrity. In order to become a qualified sparring partner for the business, the HR manager needs to understand the business. The prerequisite for understanding the business is to know the basic data. Often this is not the case, and this constitutes a huge challenge for HR consultants.”
Frank goes on to suggest a number of things that a competent HR manager needs: management experience, preferably from an international organisation; an understanding of how best to develop talent and general staff; and the ability to measure performance.
