Tourism promotion plan for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority

PA developed a tourism and investment promotion strategy for the port city of Aqaba, the only outlet to the sea for the Kingdom of Jordan. In addition to the port installations, the city has a hotel zone and a number of industrial installations.  PA handled the formulation of strategies for promoting Aqaba as an international tourism destination and as a viable location for commercial real estate projects such as hotels, entertainment centers, a convention complex, and marinas. PA also conducted a series of strategy sessions intended to secure industry consensus on priority target markets and a promotional action plan to attract tourism investment into southern Jordan.

Programmatic environmental assessment for tourism

PA assisted the Ministry of Tourism of Jordan in preparing a programmatic environmental assessment of the Jordan Tourism Development Project. The assessment identified the proposed project’s environmental impacts, energy requirements and conservation potential, social impacts, sustainability of archeological and historical sites after development, tourist carrying capacity of the sites proposed for development, and the disposal of solid waste and wastewater generated by tourists visiting the sites. The assessment also contained measures to mitigate adverse environmental impacts, a monitoring plan and an evaluation of the environmental and social aspects of the project.
