Sustainable destination program in Playa del Carmen
PA is working on a project in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, to introduce environmental improvements in both hotel and municipal services. We are working with two Playa de Carmen hotel associations to raise their members’ awareness to the importance of environmental considerations in the design and operation of coastal resorts, and the benefits of adopting an environmental management system (EMS) as a means of ensuring lasting results. We are also working with the municipality to organize its municipal services to both facilitate and support the tourism industry's environmental improvement (eg water conservation, treated wastewater reuse, recycling and solid waste management).
Training for state tourism planning officials
PA conducted a training course on Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for hotels for the Mexican Tourism Secretariat (SECTUR). The audience was composed of representatives of 22 State Government Tourism Authorities. The course focused on applying environmental management to the Mexican tourism industry. As a result, a second two-day training course on the same material was requested by the government of the State of Toluca’s tourism agency for 30 key staff of different hotels and members of regional tourism authorities.
