Global capability in sea ports

Driven by globalisation and increased containerisation of cargo in international trade, container business has been growing by 8-10% in recent years.

Consequently, the global ports sector is going through a period of intense growth and change - facing new and challenging demands and service requirements from customers. Ports are an industry that is highly asset-intensive and developing. To cope with this accelerating growth, ports need to be strong in managing capacity as markets develop, while maintaining maximum utilisation of assets and optimal revenue from operations.

Despite growth in the industry there will still be pressure from shipping lines on rates and turnaround times.  Thus ports must develop to become ever more lean and efficient and, wherever feasible, renew and apply methods and technologies to cut unit costs and improve operations. This includes not only physical equipment but also IT solutions offering the right level of integration to customers, thereby making it easy and efficient to do business with each other.

All of the above create pressure to hire and retain both more and higher quality staff, and to ensure all are well trained to deal with customers, planning, operations and technology.
