Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies (AMSA)
The Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies (AMSA) represents the interests of nearly 300 of the US's wastewater treatment agencies - environmental practitioners that serve the majority of the sewered population in the United States, and collectively treat and reclaim more than 18 billion gallons of wastewater each day. AMSA maintains a key role in the development of environmental legislation, and works closely with federal regulatory agencies in the implementation of environmental programs.

AMSA is a dynamic national organization, involved in all facets of water quality protection. Viewed as a key stakeholder in the legislative, regulatory and legal arenas, AMSA has built credible, collaborative relationships with members of Congress, Presidential administrations, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the nation's courts. Recent years have seen heightened involvement in a broadening array of environmental laws and regulations in the water quality arena, including watershed management, wet weather, infrastructure funding, security, emerging pollutants and non-point-source pollution control. AMSA works closely with its members and other stakeholder groups to ensure responsible pro-environment outcomes based on sound scientific and economic data.

Gender and Water Alliance
The Gender and Water Alliance (GWA) is an independent network of more than 400 organizations and individuals in 56 countries around the world. More than 80 percent of the membership comes from countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. It was created at the second World Water Forum  in 2000 in order to promote the recognition and incorporation of gender mainstreaming as a key approach for integrated water resources management. The GWA believes that sustainable water and sanitation services requires as a first step the understanding of the different social relationships and roles of women and men, poor and rich communities, and minority and majority cultures that affect the different uses, management and control of water resources.

The GWA is governed by a nine-member steering committee representing different regions and areas of expertise in the water and gender sectors. The Secretariat of the GWA implements activities and is in regular contact with the membership and partners. GWA is an Associated Programme of the Global Water Partnership and maintains working agreements with key agencies in the sector such as the WSSCC, UNDP, Cap-net, CAWTAR and others. The GWA concentrates its efforts on information and knowledge development and sharing, training and capacity building, advisory support, advocacy and partnership development.  The present phase of the Alliance is funded by the governments of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

International Water Management Institute (IWMI)
The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has gained a reputation as a world-class research organization in the field of water and land management. Headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, it is one of 15 centers supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

IWMI’s mission is to improve water and land resources management for food, livelihoods and nature. IWMI conducts a worldwide research and capacity-building program to improve water and land resources through better technologies, policies, institutions, and management. Scarce and polluted water supplies have their greatest impact on poor people, especially women and children. Improving the productivity of water can make a major contribution to reducing poverty and improving people’s lives. IWMI therefore explores ways to help alleviate poverty, protect and conserve the environment, maintain food security, and provide poor and disadvantaged people better access to water resources.

Since its inception, IWMI has developed a comprehensive understanding on the management of water in the agriculture sector through research in key areas such as water productivity in varying scales from field to basin, water allocation and distribution, groundwater management and conjunctive use of groundwater and surface water, environmental flows and wetland management, and wastewater irrigation. To support this research, IWMI maintains a strong skill base to conduct hydrologic assessments and to use GIS and remote sensing tools in water and land management research.

IWMI has extensive experience in the institutional reforms needed for the effective management of land and water resources and the processes required to establish effective Water Users Associations (WUA) and Farmer Organizations (FOs) for the transfer of irrigation management to improve system efficiency.

International Water Resources Association (IWRA)
The International Water Resources Association (IWRA) has strived to improve water management worldwide through dialogue, education, and research for over 25 years. Since its formation in 1972 the organization has promoted the sustainable management of water resources around the globe. The belief that sustainability requires interdisciplinary action and international co-operation is a driving force behind the association, which seeks to improve water resource outcomes by improving collective understanding of the physical, biological, chemical, institutional, and socio-economic aspects of water.

IWRA is about networking the people, information, and organizations that are vitally concerned with the global sustainability of water resources.  IWRA is one of nine founding members of the World Water Council and played a key role in its formation as an organization dedicated to global water policy. IWRA is committed to its members and their professional development and advancement, providing access to the latest in information, programs, and international experts.

In short, IWRA's goal is to build and strengthen partnerships and mechanisms to facilitate the sustainable use of water resources worldwide.  IWRA recognizes that its efforts must actively transcend many types of boundaries.  IWRA's unique role is to serve as a bridge in networking people, information, and organizations.
