Fostering transboundary water and energy co-operation
To help promote transboundary co-operation in Central Asia’s Aral Sea Basin, PA is assisting USAID/CAR in developing a strategy and specific tasks for an effective technical assistance program for water and energy policymakers, and is implementing the activities recommended in the strategy.
On completion, PA anticipates the project will deliver increased co-operation among CAR water and energy policymakers on internationally recognized approaches to rational water and energy resource management in the Aral Sea Basin region. This includes both the Amu Darya and Syr Darya Rivers, and signed international agreements or protocols for transboundary water and energy cooperation by CAR leaders at the highest levels. It will also create a more effective and robust donor program that will work with other donor programs such as the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
