Peru’s abundant natural and fresh-water resources are threatened by industrial pollution. The lack of a comprehensive regulatory system and appropriate economic instruments to promote environmental management further unbalances Peru’s precarious environment.
USAID engaged PA to support the government of Peru and Peru's private industry sector in reducing the negative effects of pollution from both industry and mobile sources. We also helped create a clearer, more stable legal and regulatory environmental framework for the industry and transportation sectors. PA provided technical assistance to private industry, government institutions and non-government organizations on issues such as: cleaner production, industrial emissions, economic instruments, maximum permissible limits, transportation air quality, and the financing of investments in cleaner technology .

PA provided extensive regulatory capacity-building efforts, strengthened cleaner production technical services and enhanced industrial efficiency and competitiveness. We also developed and implemented major transportation and air quality efforts in Peru, facilitating funding from multilateral donors such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.
