Lean in the public sector
'Lean' is not the latest health fad, it is in fact a tried and tested performance improvement approach that can significantly improve delivery and performance.
The UK's forthcoming comprehensive spending review will greatly increase pressure on Whitehall departments. More efficiencies on top of those made during the last spending review period will be demanded, and this must be done while simultaneously meeting public demands for improved services and ministerial commitments to policy initiatives. So far attention has focused on savings that can be achieved by making services more customer centric and streamlining back office operations. But there is evidence to suggest that a radical rethink of internal processes, not just structural change could be more successful.
Would you say no to a 35% increase in productivity, 60% reduction in error and 80% reduction in lead time?
Could Lean be the answer?
