Transport for London - Surface Transport Division
Creating the next generation of leaders
The Surface Transport Division of Transport for London recognised that there was a need to develop the capability of its next generation of leaders. Within the business, technical specialists held a number of the general management and leadership positions. It was important that their capability, experience and knowledge be broadened to meet the organisational challenges that lay ahead - this involved continuing to deliver performance, to innovate and to manage significant internal changes.
PA was commissioned to design and deliver an Executive Development Programme that:
• developed leadership capability through a process of planned and targeted interventions • enhanced management skills, in areas such as emotional intelligence, problem-solving and commercial awareness • facilitated organisational cultural change, and the desired ways of working.
The Programme was rolled out across the top 250 leaders and managers over three years. It is recognised as being an important factor in the successful development of the organisation, and supported the dramatic improvement in London's transport system.
