Setting future directions and plans
In the past, strategic thinking was not a high priority for universities, since their funding and business activities were highly predictable from year to year. That has changed, and every university now needs to decide the markets it will address and how it will compete in a much more uncertain environment. Universities are having to adopt the strategic mind-sets and methods already familiar to enterprises in other industries.
We work with university leadership teams and communities to develop and realise their strategic ambitions in the new environment, by:
-
reviewing the current operations, strengths and weaknesses of the university, and the potential impact of emerging changes
-
developing alternative scenarios and options for the future academic and market focus for the university and establishing preferred strategies
-
engaging the whole university community and external stakeholders in developing and determining future direction and goals
-
identifying the critical organisational capabilities needed to succeed in the chosen markets, and assessing the university’s development priorities
-
developing and implementing business plans to establish the organisational, operational and academic changes required to realise the strategy.
Among the many clients we have helped to address these challenges are the University of Westminster, the Institute of Education, Aberystwyth University, the University of Northampton, Cranfield University and INTO University Partnerships.
